For the Pocket PC - there are 3 that are must haves:

Pocket Grandmaster 2.0 - comes with 3 engines - SOS, Gromit and Ruffian.
Ruffian makes it a must have for the Pocket PC.

Pocket Fritz (Shredder) although the new version - Pocket Fritz 2 is a little
steep at nearly $50. Pocket Fritz 1 should be around $20-$25 if you can find
it. The neat thing about Pocket Fritz is that you can import the big Shredder
PC book. Very good database abilities and an online search that I never use.

Chess Genius is very strong on the Pocket PC and will blow away any Palm program
running on the slow "Palms" game after game. Program is not as current as Fritz
and Ruffian in terms latest Chess programming techniques, but still a formidable
foe.

After that , they drop of a bit - I did purchased the Chess Partner version, it
also shares books with PC big brother Chess Partner. The neat thing there is
that there are a ton of specialized Rebel books that can be converted to Chess
Partner format which you can then move to the Pocket PC. The weakness here is
that the Program is simply not as strong as the 3 mentioned above - Fritz ,
Ruffian and Genius.

All these opening books for Rebel...

...are all convertible into Chess Partner Pocket PC format.
