Gerd, do you have one such table or 2? It sounds to me, as you only had one. I
think with 2 * 2048 entries one should get less than 4% collisions in
middlegames. The 2 tables for each side to move (so one doesn't get wrong hits
when the right to move changes, for example after null move or some tempo
manoever). The 1-4% in early middle games sounds a bit high. The probability for
a collision is about move_number/Number_of_entries. So for 4%, one would need to
be at move 80 already. Of course, when there are many repetitions in the tree,
one gets more matches. But this is the whole idea behind it after all. Perhaps
you counted this as collision? I would count it as a hit ...
