The fact is that most engines currently available are for PC's. I think this is due to the fact that PC's outnumber other computers (I recently realized this), and commercial programmers write programs for the platform that will increase their earnings. For my part, I am writing an engine for the platform that is available to me. Most programers would do the same, and as PC's running under windows is the most widespread platform, chess engines for PC's running under windows are the most common.
