GCC has been ported to x86-64. I think microsoft has ported msvc to it also.
also, for 32 bit programs intels own compiler would probably work very well
(because the hammer can use all optimizations intels own chips support). Intel
can use the x86-64 extensions in their processors (thanks to licensing
agreements, lawsuits, etc) so intel may make an x86-64 version of their compiler
to support 64 as well as 32 bit programs. In any case there will be atleast 2
x86-64 compilers.
