Dear Chris, Thanks for your helpful advice! Actually I solved the problem myself about 10-minutes after posting my initial post (but it was already after my bed time, so I didn't post that I found a solution...until now). I went to my C-drive and found the Shredder 7 .ctg book already there, copied to my hard drive. That's great, but then the manual sure is silly to subsequently instruct us to copy the opening book. The reality is that I had a smooth installation, but the poorly worded manual instead gave the impression that something was wrong, when it really wasn't. I already own Fritz 7 and it never copied its opening book to my hard drive upon installation. Instead, I had to do it manually, like the Shredder instructions advised. So the lack of consistency in ChessBase products is confusing. Anyway, the opening book is copied and works just fine now. Thanks again, Chris. All the best, Stephen
