Very interesting. Thanks. Ken Thompson now produces the Professional World
Chess Ranking for players rated 2500 or more, probably using some variation of
this algorithm, I imagine. Some think his rating list is more accurate than
FIDE’s as the FIDE list is well known for its errors in omitting games, matches,
tournaments, etc. Thompson’s latest ELO list for January 2003 was published in
TWIC 425, the December 30, 2002 issue, and is reproduced below.
Fide’s list just published for January 2003 has the top 25 as follows in their
downloadable complete rating list. The number to the right is the number of
games since the last rating list.
