I am puzzled by the remark: "the latest commercial version DeepJunior7 was not used in the world championship that Junior won". The engine that won the ICCA WCCC10 event in Maastricht (June, 2002) was in fact given the name 'Deep Junior 7', whatever its relationship to the commercial Deep Junior 7. Admittedly, the naming of versions of an engine is intrinsically difficult and a subject of marketing. How, in general, can we know the technical relationship of a specific competing engine in a specific game to 'the commercial product'. My feeling is that the 'DJ7' of WCCC10 is more likely to be an advance on a previously-released commercial product than identical to that commercial product, and that the '2003 DJ' will be a further advance, engineered for the games in hand. This begs the question of whether there is any identifiable similarity at all between 'DJ' as competing in events and 'DJ' as sold over the counter, but I assume there is and that purchasers can testify to this by somehow reproducing the games of DJ's tournaments. g
