How about using Kylix C++.  This is Borland's new C++ RAD environment for Linux.
 Kylix was a Delphi Linux port but with version 3 it also does C++.  I think
you'd find it extremely quick to develop in and you'd have access to 1000s of
3rd part controls.  It also has ther added advantage that it could also be
compiled fop Windows as well (using Borland's C++ Builder). It's also free to
try.
