There are other ways.

suppose that one engine shows a positive score of almost one pawn advantage but
the score goes down every iteration when the second engine has a stable score
that is close to draw.

In this case I will trust more the second engine.
The first engine has not realistic evaluation because I expect positive score to
go up and not to go down.

I have also an example from my correspondence game against Luba kristol when I
decided not to trust Deep Fritz6 but to trust gandalf.

One of the reasons was the fact that the score of Fritz went down every
iteration.
