Interesting. From what I have seen, Java bytecodes would translate (somewhat)
efficiently to Sparc code. Maybe I'm wrong. If so, it is likely that Sparc
influenced the development of the JVM, even if Java is a stack machine.

Anyway, I wonder about Microsoft .NET IL. A friend of mine demonstrated me a pi
calculator program he wrote which uses an FFT to compute the value of pi to some
number of digits. On his P3-1 GHz, the IL version was about 20% faster. I would
imagine that Microsoft designed their IL to run efficiently on x86.

I wonder how they would compare...
