I can tell you that neither of these are bugs. Specifically:

1) The EGDB information can be gotten from the Advice tab of the Coach window.

2) Per Ubi Soft requirements, when an application is minimized, the amount of
CPU that is used should also be minimized. Therefore, we had to kill any engines
that were running. To avoid this, merely ALT+TAB away from Chessmaster, rather
than minimize it.
