Especially a language with a steeper learning curve like C/C++. Give yourself at least 6 months. As for suggestions, learn how to use www.google.com effectively. There are tons of free stuff out there to support the budding programmer. Free compilers, free interpreters, free tutorials, free etc. This is the most important skill you can acquire on the internet. Learning how to use an internet search engine like google is the key to everything else.
