After creating a separate drive you could simply back up anything important and start with the older operating system. I have Windows 2000 Professional running with Windows 98 on the same computer and have had no problems whatsoever. I would recommend using the NTFS option and I don't know about XP but Windows 2000 Pro allows you to keep the old folders when reinstalling.
