the oldest one would be a trial chessprogram win chess or something like that
which came on a comp magazine free cd; back in 1995. i manged to beat that with
a few takebacks!

however the first full proper chessprogramme that i actually bought was
chessmaster3000-in 1995. i was very pleased with this purchase as the graphics
looked cool! also had all the k-k games in its database and had karpov
explaining some of these games. it was strong enough to defeat me every time and
for the first time ever i could analyse the games which were reported in
newspapers! and manage to solve a mate in x positions etc!
