I think that there should be a computer program which doesn't change its rating. The hardware should also remain the same. Then things will be standardized. Maybe it will not be called ELO, but it can be established that level 13 (e.g.) is 2000 elo in the year 2003. etc. There should be all styles and different shuffling for oppening positions, so that only skill is measured. It would be a big project to produce such a thing, I can understand. But it should have so much diversity, that no one can actually learn its "tricks", without actually improving ones actual overall playing level. S.Taylor
