I am running Fritz 8.0.0.8 on Windows XP with 1 GB RAM in my machine. I have turned off "System Restore" (though I would rather have not). I have heard (and seen) that with that enabled, Fritz 8 is completely unusable (slow doesn't begin to describe it). When I start Fritz 8 and opt to play a game vs Fritz (vs going to the Playchess.com server), Fritz starts up rather slowly. It frequently takes almost one minute before I see the chess board on the screen. Previous Chessbase products I own come up in just a few seconds. I configured the hashtables to be 128 MB. I played a game (and lost - wow, what a shock, right?). I then exited Fritz 8. I then restarted Fritz 8. When it starts again, it now seems to grab all available memory for hashtables -- 819 MB is now used in my case. This is very annoying as it slows down the rest of the programs I have running on the computer. Is there any way to stop this behavior? Fritz 6 did not do this, nor did Junior 7 or Tiger 14 or Hiarcs 8. This seems to be a GUI "feature" that I would rather do without that only affects Windows XP systems -- my Windows 2000 PC does not exhibit this behavior. Thanks for any tips you may know of! Roy
