Ferret's 22. Nxg5! gave up a knight for 2 pawns in return for pressure against black's king and a nice f5 knight-outpost. It's fair to call this a positional sac, since Ferret didn't recoup any material until 13 moves later. Monsoon-Chezzz was one of them. >Most Entertaining Game > Monsoon-Comet was an epic battle. Comet's 2 queens stood by and watched while Monsoon's Queen and rooked chased Comet's king all over the board. A super tense game that finally ended in a draw. Here's where the fun started. Monsoon made 20 consecutive checks from this position: [D]6k1/6p1/7p/2R5/8/P6P/2Q3PK/3q1q2 w - - 0 44 >Best Comment by IM Schroer > >Best Comment by Anyone > >Other "Awards" "Biggest upset" would be a good one, but I don't think there were any huge ones. I just scanned the final crosstable quickly, and didn't see anything glaring, at least among the top programs. Overperformer Award: Monsoon, although many people already knew it was very strong. Underperformer Award: Diep, and I'm sure Vincent will agree. Worst theoretical novelty: 6...Rb8 in Ruffian-Diep. Either a bug in Vincent's book building code, or garbage in the PGN he used to generate it. [D]rnbqk1r1/pp2ppbp/2p2np1/3p4/2PP4/2N1PN2/PP2BPPP/R1BQK2R w KQq - -Peter
