When I got Crafty running in December 1994, Stuart Cracraft suggested that I make it xboard compatible and try the (at the time) FICS (now ICC) server. It took me one hour to be up and running on ICC. It took another couple of hours to figure out how resumed games are set up (edit command before Tim made the getmovelist change for me). All in all, a couple of nights and it was up and running with no problems. I doubt that is too hard for a "professional chess programmer". If it is... well you can figure that out... :)
