Sorry to disabuse you of your notions. Contrary to your statement frequency is
not the sole metrics. The P4 has a bad reaction to branch mispredictions. And
has lower IPC than the Athlon. So it tends to get outperformed in a bad way. If
we look at the SPEC scores for crafty we get: XP1700+ 115 sec runtime/ 1.7GHz P4
181 sec runtime. That is almost 60% better for the slower clocked AMD. Once
again, so sorry ;)
