I assume you are talking about BoundsChecker by Compuware (formerly marketed by
NuMega, which Compuware acquired). It is a really excellent program IMO. I used
it quite a bit during the early development of Arasan. It was very helpful in
finding bugs. I do many of the other things suggested here, as well (assertions,
debug code), but I don't think these really substitute for what BoundsChecker
does, nor do free alternatives I have looked at really compare. It can check not
only array bounds violations, but also such things as use of uninitialized
variables and misuse of Windows API calls. I haven't updated my copy in a while,
and don't use it at present, but IMO it is well worth what they are charging for
it (you can often get discounts by buying through a reseller such as
http://www.programmersparadise.com).
