i am sure that you are absolutely right, derek. steve is a human being just like
the rest of us and has his good days and bad days. and steve has done many
admirable things over the years, including his write up of NY1924, and I have
learnt alot from steve lopez' columns in the past.
but here's the thing, there was this major video bug in shredder7 and fritz8
interface, i'll admit that I was a new adopter on the bleeding edge...but
chessbase themself did not tell me about the fix and here is steve writing some
sort of "my dog ate my homework essay" about his video card, so i guess my
expectations were diminished.
what i did not mention is that steve also wrote me personal hatemail after my
posting, and ended it by telling me on his kill list. I even offered him an
apology, which i assume he killed.
that's probably why my last post about him takes on such a sarcastic tone
althouggh i am sure he is a good person in other respects.
chessbase usa has not been good about responding my emails lately anyway
whenever i have had a question relating to a purchase which was unfulfilled, i
had to phone them to get an appropriate response after a 40 day wait. i know
this is not steve's fault in any way, but i astounded how quickly he reacts when
I grouse publicly. I do remember my very first call to steve maybe 8 years ago
regarding CB for mac. Steve did not believe me when i told him i was using an
alpha utility on the mac platform-- that it existed much less could advise me.
so he sent me to andre at chess base in hamburg. i try not to bother steve.

if anyone here can tell me how to unlock the Nov '02 upgrade to chessbase8 I
will be most appreciative. thanks in advance, marc
