Off topic, but, I could use a helpful suggestion or two. My 533 MHz P4 system keeps locking up. Often, prior to lockup, I'll get an error message that memory is running low. When I go into a DOS window (showing my age ...) and run "mem" the following appears both when the system is having problems: Microsoft(R) Windows 98 (C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1999. C:\WINDOWS>mem Memory Type Total Used Free ---------------- -------- -------- -------- Conventional 636K 68K 568K Upper 123K 123K 0K Reserved 0K 0K 0K Extended (XMS) 65,345K ? 259,572K ---------------- -------- -------- -------- Total memory 66,104K ? 260,140K Total under 1 MB 759K 190K 568K Largest executable program size 568K (582,048 bytes) Largest free upper memory block 0K (0 bytes) MS-DOS is resident in the high memory area. C:\WINDOWS> The same output appears after shutting the system down and rebooting. In addition, sometimes the Kernel Processor usage jumps from less than 25% to over 75%, even when I've walked away from the machine and it is not being used! Any clues or hints as to what to do? I'm debating whether or not to do the dreaded re-install of Windows. All suggestions are welcome. Once again, this IS off topic. Any help is appreciated.
