Ludwig Bürgin, several times very successful operator of Junior in the Thueringen tournaments told me the same even during the first game: "Junior should not play 1...d5 against 1.d4." Maybe it is worth looking in some databases, e.g. SSDF, and check the Junior's score with black with 1...d5.
