This reminds me of a posting a made a few weeks ago about the influence of the OS on the parformance of chess computers. It seems intuitive the best results can be gotten from a minimal OS. Why chess manufacturers do not progam a simple real-time mode kernel that only runs the engine (except for a simple tcp/ip connection to communicate with anotgher machine that can do fancy UI is a mistery to me. :)
