Great comments! Here are a couple of comments on YOUR comments:

8...d6 -- Indeed this is a rare position. In the Chessmaster database, there are
only three games, and the only one of note is Shirov-Korneev, 1998, which
continued:
9.0-0 Nf6 10.Kh1 {!} h5 11.Bg5 Qc7 12.Qd7 Bd7 13.Rad1 Ne5 14.Be2 Bc6 15.f3 0-0-0
16.Nb5 {!} axb5 17.cxb5 Be8 18.Rc1 Bc5 19.Nd4 Kb8 20.b4 b6 21.a4 h4 22.a5 {!}
Nh5 {?} 23.Bxh4 g5 24.Qxg5 f6 25.Qe3 Qg7 {? -- CM9000 much prefers 25...Bxd4
26.Qxd4 Qa7} 26.g4 {bxc5 also wins} Nf4 27.bxc5 Nxe2 28.Nxe2 {Nxe6 is much
better and wins easily!} Rxh4 {?? -- loses instantly. bxc4 was probably the only
fighting chance} 29.c6 Rc8 30.Qxb6+ Ka8 31.c7 {THREE brutal connected passed
pawns just a few steps away from Black's open king! OUCH! White has a forced
mate in 11 after this move....} 1-0

16.Qh5 -- Chessmaster 9000 has a difficult time deciding on which move to play
here. It does consider Qh5 for some time, but also might play c5!? depending on
hardware and time control.
