Supposedly Windows XP has increased performance due to a 10% lower system call
latency. It also comes with more bugs. Many more bugs.

My personal preference would be Windows 2000, but XP has the compelling Remote
Desktop and IEEE over 1394 features.

According to Crafty benchmarks Dr. Hyatt and I ran on our machines, the dual
AthlonMP 2200 should be faster than a dual Xeon 2.4 GHz. That's only in Crafty;
you'll have to take whichever program you like best and run it on both to see.
