Subject: Are there chess programs where I can set the opening position?

This is my first time on this forum so I hope I don't sound too dumb, but I want
help in end game practice from a reasonably good machine.  I have read about
endtables and such.  I just want to know what programs out there give me the
most flexibility in setting up the initial position.  Either a free program or
something commercial would be OK.
