AMD spearheads the "TPI" -- True Performance Initiative. Obviously they have the
most to gain in selling processors based on performance rather than clock speed.
Intel has supposedly bought in as well. However, since they have not yet agreed
on a standard for rating performance, AMD is using a temporary means to rate its
processors.

The rating convention with AthlonXP is supposedly the equivalent speed in MHz of
a Thunderbird at equal performance. Since they are identical in all but a few
respects, I find this to be silly. They are banking on 50% more performance from
aggressive prefetching and SSE support.

The new Barton models that release Feb. 10th will also follow this silly
convention. If I understand correctly, AthlonXP 3000 (Barton) is clocked at 2.25
GHz. AthlonXP 2800 (Thoroughbred-B) is also clocked at 2.25 GHz.
