This implies that if you have been checkmated it is too late to claim anything (unless possibly because of illegal moves that might have occurred before.) Note that the rules also say that if you can show that the move you are about to make would lead to the last 50 consecutive moves by each player satisfying the above condition you can claim the draw before actually executing the move. -Marc
