In two years from now we will all own computers that play better than the hardware that Deep Junior is playing on. I doubt that any of us here will be scoring more than 1 point out of six against such chess computers. Will we be happy then? Back in the early 1980s and the monster special purpose computer Belle created by Ken Thompson of Bell Labs I lusted to own the beast. Now that we have fast computers with relatively massive memory are we happy? Is progress a good thing? Tio Timmy PS Both Fernando and I desire a return to a slower more friendly time.
