Most GM's won't be able to do it. Fast Computers prepared by experts for a match against humans are GM's, they dont play like GM's though. A defeat of Kasparov is not necessary, this is already fact. It is fair and necessary to create special opening books for matches against GM's. The GM's can do home preparation too. It is no problem to create a special opening book for matches against weaker opponents. I believe that not a single chessplayer (including so called anticomputer experts) < approx. 2400 (real strength) is able to score better than 25% against a top-program on fast hardware with such a book in a match >= 10 games.
