For those wondering what I have to do with this "WinBoard 4.3.0" release: nothing. Daniel didn't tell me that he was working on a new version of WinBoard. He emailed me about it for the first time today, apparently at the same time he announced it to the rest of the world. I haven't had a chance to look at what he's done or try it. (And I doubt I will for quite a while. My job is keeping me very busy.) It's nice to see someone taking initiative, adding features and making them availiable. But as others have already explained, if you're going to release your own version of a free software project, you should contact the current maintainer(s) first, and (unless they say it's OK), you should not use the next version number in sequence as if you just took over as the maintainer. I don't approve of Daniel's release being called WinBoard 4.3.0. I have no opinion about it otherwise, not having looked at it.
