The problem for lower rated players -both with Katachess as with CT-Art is a lack of explanation. If one is a wee bit stronger and know to name the patterns from say your basic chess tutoring books these drills are a great way to "practice theory". I would go for a good instruction book like "The mammoth book of chess" or some book extending from opening to endgame and progress on all themes - then switch to software training. Maybe ChessMentor is a better choice at the 1100 stage (http://www.chess.com, also a downloadable trial version) J.
