Black's Ng4 was the first indication to me that Kasparov was in trouble. I first became alarmed when Kasparov moved his king's knight to e2 instead of the more usual f3. This made White's kingside appear weak. The knight on f3 would have defended the h2 square. We were all looking for Kasparov's new TN, expecting that he had one. The idea that 9.a3 was out of DJ's opening book seems plausible, but needs to be verified with the DJ programmers. If DJ WAS out of the opening book at that point, then could this be the first piece sacrifice by a chess engine in high-level chess? Bob D.
