Subject: A "scary" way to test your opening game algorithms

Under the slightly humorous dept:

Last night I made a number of changes to the binary
format of my opening book, so that the latest version
of my engine couldn't read its old opening book.

No big deal, rebuild the book and use the new
format. So far so good, except that when I started
my engine up on ICC this morning (and then blithely
went off to work) I forgot to reset the local link
to the new book.

End result, it played *all* day without an opening
book?! Arrrgghhh!!

Ah, the joys of computer programming ;)

regard,
