"Chess Challenger 1" war the first commercial chess computer (in 1977). According to a relative of the producing company "Fidelity" only about 1.000 items were produced. However, the serial numbers (which we know) range from about 5.500 to 23.000. Karsten Bauermeister and me try to understand the discrepancy and already have a conjecture (on the base of 9 items). We would like to test this conjecture with more Serial numbers. If anybody here still has such an oldtimer, he would help us by providing the Serial number (on the under-side of the machine). Thanks a lot in advance. Ingo Althofer.
