Well I'm not sure that I should be offering advice, since Chezzz outplayed PM for most of this game, but anyway... I've only very recently implemented an outside passer bonus. It says that if there's a passer on a, b or g, h AND the pieces that the opponent has are all on the far three files, give a big bonus to the passer. If the opponent has pieces which are not on the far three files, the passer gets a bonus for being outside, but it's not as high. Passers on a/h get bigger bonuses than passers on b/g in all cases. The bonus is based on how far from promotion the passer is, and how many pieces the opponent has. My program has a bonus for the case where one side has passers on both sides of the board. That bonus gets bigger if the other side only has Knights (or has no pieces at all of course). My program underestimates united passers at the moment. My program extends one ply when a pawn reaches the 7th rank. Andrew
