My thought on this is that if we know, after generating the tb for a particular position, and f7 (target square) is the move that leads to a mate in 37 ie then it really does not matter what the target square has on it! It will still be a mate in 37. The only difference is that in the event the move is not a capture then we need to add the capture flag to the epd string or vice versa. Les
