Thank you for your reply. My settings look different, although don't seem to be
corrupted:

[Personality = REBEL.ENG]              * Rebel Century 4.0 engine
[Pawn Value = 100]
[Knight Value = 100]
[Bishop Value = 100]
[Rook Value = 100]
[Queen Value = 100]
[King Safety = 150]
[Mobility = 100]
[Pawn Structure = 100]
[Passed Pawns = 100]
[Pins = 100]
[Bishop Pair = 100]
[Chess Knowledge = 100]
[Attractiveness = 101]
[Attacking = 100]
[Strength of Play = 100]
[Draw Contempt Factor = 0.00]
[Selective Search = 100]
[Search Technique = NULLMOVE]
[Pruning = NONE]                       * Undocumented (see README.TXT)
[ANTI-GM = OFF] * OFF, ACTIVE, STRONG or SMART
[EVALUATION = NORMAL] * NORMAL or SMART
[Extensions (remaining)= 47]
[Extensions (checks)= 118]
[Extensions (captures)= 128]

I find it a bit strange that Pruning=NONE, but this is taken straight after a
successful install on the machine that seems OK in terms of speed (i.e. the
P3-700 laptop). Settings on the P4 are identical.

By the way, I have two identical P4-3.06 machines and I just confirmed that:
1. They are both terribly slow running Century 4 (60% slower than P3-700).
2. Century3 is ALSO affected - the NPS is about 30-40 KNps in early middlegame.
3. None of the other programs have this symptom. This includes newer Chessbase
stuff and Tiger 15. Crafty's performance is consistent with Bob's reported NPS
on the hyperthreaded 2.8 GHz Xeon.

I wonder if it is the RDRAM, P4, other? Puzzling.

thank you again,
PK
