That is an influential factor, to what degree I do not know. The difference in price (when you build) between dual AthlonMP 1600 and AthlonXP 2500 is going to be something like $100. To get dual AthlonMP 2000, it would cost you a tad more. Alternatively you can get a dual-CPU board and stick an AthlonXP in it. When you are ready to go dual-CPUs, just sell the AthlonXP and put in 2 AthlonMP chips. (Or buy 1 AthlonMP now, though the MPs are more expensive at the same level of performance.) Using an AthlonXP 2500 in a dual-CPU board won't let you run a 166 MHz FSB, though. I think my Tyan TigerMPX allows me to run the bus at up to 150 MHz. You'd need ram that supports that, and there is no guarantee that the chipset can sustain that either. -Matt
