This sentence contains the implication that if Fritz had no drop that then they could be no tactical win in the position. But what GM Alterman said was "and I'm going for a win". That is exactly the difference between GM and a chess program. A GM knows how to do it because he sees certain things a computer can't see. What you prove with the analysis above is that a comp with White does not see a turning point for WHITE in the not too far future. I would say that Kasparov offered draw in a situation that is still unclear enough so that the general public can't 'see' what really is going on. Only a GM is able to do that. GM Alterman knew it. DJ saw nothing - and that would be fatal until it's too late. GM Alterman knew that. GM Kasparov felt that. DJ Ban&Bushinsky had no idea. So I would say that GM Alterman is the one who finally saved the draw. Regarding Kasparov's general weakness and mistakes I would have played on because he might have blundered. However if NOT then the game would have been lost for Junior.
