According the "Remarks" at http://members.home.nl/matador/chess810.htm the
default REBEL 12 (beta-1) will start with the REBEL XP chess engine.
IMO this means: Rebel.eng of Rebel 12 = Rebel XP (so the identical times/same
ply in the BS2830 test positions are no surprise for me).

The included 7 BETA versions (called Beta1.eng ... Beta7.eng in subfolder
"Personal") are the "new" engines of Rebel 12 - sorted on their expected elo
improvement, thus it is estimated that Beta1.eng will perform best.
So try the BS2830 test positions with one of these BetaX.eng.
