I'm not sure why anyone would assume that. Just because it is written somewhere
in some documentation or book doesn't mean it's common knowledge.

And that the online help not only told you what the arrows meant, but what the
arrows' meanings meant. IE it might tell you "this kind of arrow means a fail
high", but that doesn't mean you know what a fail-high is.
