Much less IMO.  I think we can practically name them all:

Frans Morsch (Fritz)
Amir Ban / Shay Bushinsky(Junior)?? <- I think they have are part time
Christophe Theron (Tiger)
Richard Lang (Chess Genius)
Chrilly Donninger (Nimzo / Brutus)
Stefan Meyer-Kahlan (Shredder)
Mark Uniacke (Hiarcs)? <- was working for Nortel but may now be full time
Johan de Koning (King / ChessMaster)

And that's it as far as chess engine programmers.  If you widen the field to
anyone who earns a living from programming anything to do with chess then you'll
add quite a few more - i.e. the folks from ChessBase, Chess Assistant,
ChessMaster - but I doubt it would reach 50 people
