OpenOffice is not 100% compatible with MSProducts, but other tools are just very suitable for scientific work. I wrote all my theses using vi and latex, as plotting program xmgrace (great for 2d data and also fitting/processing) or gnuplot , xfig for all drawings ... Especially in science, where you may have mayn formulas, typesetting programs like latex give a much superior result than Word processors ... It takes probably a week and you know all basic things to operate this set of programs ... But maybe this is getting too much off topic now ... Best regards, Ralph
