I've been looking for an engine I can play at tournament time controls without getting stomped (something stronger than the Sapphire II but weaker than Crafty). I think Comet B27 fits the bill. It's one of the freebies included with Chessbase programs. I can't find the older SSDF lists. Other sources suggest anywhere from 2390-2470. Any opinions on where it's at on a 1.2 Ghz? (Or any suggestions for interesting programs meeting the stronger-than-Sapphire-weaker-than-Crafty criterion. As great as it is to own GM-level programs, the only way I can play them is with an average time setting and frequent adjournments (I presume this hybrid of OTB and postal chess has become quite popular). Thanks,
