Have we ever seen a chess program that does not come with the same default
setting for all time controls? Even in the case of Fritz8 and Shredder7,
there are some people who thinks these top programs would be stronger play
at blitz with adjusted parameters. But nobody seems to be able to give
enough evidence about this theory. In the case of Chessmaster 9000, it is
true that the default settings may not be the strongest ones at longer
time controls. It's just - as I have heard and read - the best allaround
setting for all time controls and even for weaker hardware.
