I digress, but it occurred to me (after reading the latest SSDF rating list) just how utterly astounding it is that in this time of rapid progress, specialization and competition, the same person would hold the distinction of being the highest rated chess player in the world for almost 20 years! Even Lasker, who held the title for quite a bit longer than that, took time off from chess and could not equal Kasparov's accomplishment. So when we find it easy to judge and criticize, let’s remember how fortunate we are to be able to witness the convergence (I borrow this from Amir’s reply today) of human and computer chess at this level. regards, PK
