Generally speaking, no one (programmer, company, etc) wants admit that his
product is not the best selling. So why publish stats and ruin the party? ;-)

Impossible unless there is a central download website. For example
http://download.com is by far the most popular download center for the
mainstream products, so you can get a good idea of popularity of each program by
looking at its stats.
