I ran a few 20-game matches with Arasan 6.3 against
various other engines. This was on a single processor
1.7GHz Xeon, no ponder. Both engines had 64MB
hashtables. I used 3-4-5 man tablebases for the
Arasan 5.4, Tao and Sjeng matches. For the others I
had some disk problems and didn't use tablebases.
Time control was 40 moves/40 minutes.
Results were as follows:
Arasan 6.3
vs. win loss draw
Arasan 5.4 9 8 3
Tao 5.4 7 8 5
Sjeng 12.13 8 7 5
Pepito 1.59 2 11 7
Ruffian 1.0.1 1 14 5
Compared to earlier versions, this one did better
against Sjeng and Tao. The new Pepito seems to
be quite a strong opponent, and so of course is
Ruffian. Ruffian found a "bust" in Arasan's
book, which helped it win two of the games.
